In the context of Nigerian Foolanee bandits in northwestern Nigeria, the term "Kachalla" (also spelled "Kacalla") functions as a title meaning "kingpin" or "leader." This designation is commonly associated with prominent figures leading bandit groups in the region. Notable individuals bearing this title include:
Kachalla Halilu Sububu: A notorious bandit leader who commanded over 1,000 militants in the Sububu Forest of Zamfara State. He was known for his extensive criminal network across West Africa and was killed by the Nigerian military in September 2024.
Kachalla Turji (Gudda Turji): Leader of a bandit group operating along Sokoto Road, responsible for numerous raids and kidnappings. He hails from Shinkafi Local Government of Zamfara State.
Ali Kachalla: Led a group of about 200 bandits in the Kuyambana Forest and was implicated in significant attacks, including the downing of a Nigerian Air Force jet in July 2021. He was killed in December 2023.
The use of "Kachalla" as a title underscores the hierarchical structure within these bandit groups, signifying the authority and prominence of their leaders.
